SMEAR AND LOATHING
Poster Series
Smear and Loathing is a project that puts strategy and communication at its centre point. The strategy was to take a six-week-long period to create reactionary negative advertisements against the conservative government in regards to their actions at that time, resulting in a series of physical posters that would then collate into an exhibition piece that would communicate the consistency at which the Tory government has failed in this country.
This project's visual identity was a collation of several inspirations from successful contemporary and historical British political communications. This can be seen via elements such as its typesetting, inspired by War Is Over, or its messaging and iconography inspired by political figures like Tony Blair, design agencies like Saatchi and Saatchi and several pop culture references. Its format also found heavy inspiration from meme culture and memes' effectiveness in a political context on social media.
